See Phoenix’s “final” on DVD

Better known as the film Joaquin Phoenix was supposed to the promoting during his recent “meltdown” and departure from acting for, well, gangsta rapping, James Gray’s drama Two Lovers is new on DVD and Blu-ray this week. After all that hoopla, Phoenix comes across as remarkably normal, even relatable, in the Brooklyn-based film as a bachelor torn between the family friend his parents want him to marry—3:10 to Yuma’s Vinessa Shaw—and a beautiful neighbor played by Gwyneth Paltrow. As he navigates both relationships, Phoenix must choose between making his family happy and following his heart. Elias Koteas and Isabella Rossellini co-star. Rated R.
