Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson star in what could be the dark horse candidate of the Oscar season. Out of the Furnace tells the story of Russell Baze (played by Bale) a man who takes justice into his own hands after his little brother, Rodney (played by Affleck), goes missing. It doesn’t help that his brother is involved with the town’s crime lord, Harlan DeGroat, played by Harrelson. Scott Cooper, the director of the Oscar-winning Crazy Heart, is behind the camera for this one and also helped write the screenplay. Though this is Cooper’s second film, critics aren’t seeing signs of a sophomore slump. This is the first of two releases for Bale this season. Later this month, he’ll star in American Hustle, opposite Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams. Rated R. Check out the trailer below.
