The Spartan army that was the focus of a 2006 summer hit is back for revenge. This weekend’s big movie release is 300: Rise of an Empire, a sequel to the mega-popular and ultra-violent 300, which was based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s fictional comic book series. In Rise of an Empire, Greek general Themistocles leads the charge against Persian forces led by the powerful duo of Xerxes and Artemisia. The first film in the series made Gerard Butler and director Zack Snyder household names. This time around, director Noam Murro will get to show off his chops. Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro and Sullivan Stapleton lead the cast. Rated R. View the trailer below.
