Scuttlebutt: OMG burger challenge … Another Broken Egg plans return to Baton Rouge

Say OMG: Uncle E’s Wings and Things on the corner of Florida Boulevard and Sharp Lane may be a small burger joint, but there’s nothing small about the eating contest they’ve cooked up. This local hole-in-the-wall serves up delicious burgers with names like the “Huh Bruh” and the “Oh Snap,” but the colossal burger created for the upcoming challenge has earned its name: The OMG Burger. It’s three pounds of ground beef on a 10-inch muffuletta bun, topped with eight slices of hot sausage, 18 slices of bacon and nine slices of cheese. On June 25, competitors will face off to see who can finish this feast the fastest—fries and a 32-ounce drink included. The winner will take home a $100 cash prize, a trophy, and their picture on the wall of fame—and anyone who’s able to finish the gargantuan sandwich within an hour eats free. Think you can handle it? Visit uncleeswings.com for more information. Egg not beaten: Another Broken Egg Café is set to return to the Baton Rouge market this fall. The restaurant is renovating the former Harold’s location in Citiplace. Plans are to have a restaurant with 130 seats, including an outdoor patio and a breakfast bar. Double R Restaurant Group of Lafayette will operate the location. Another Broken Egg will be open for breakfast, lunch and brunch seven days a week, with private events, such as banquets and business meetings, held there during evening hours. Mandeville-based Another Broken Egg had two Baton Rouge restaurants about three years ago. But it closed its O’Neal Lane location because of slow weekday sales; and its Old Hammond restaurant was rebranded, then forced to close after the franchisee was sued for violating a non-compete clause and using trade secrets.
