Scuttlebutt: Himalayas closed for now; three-day culinary festival planned
The bad news first: Himalayas, the Indian restaurant on Sherwood Forest, has closed. But the good news is it’s not permanent. Neighbors say the owner went to India for a month so her daughter could get married. Now that’s something to cheer about. The first of its kind here: Fęte Rouge, a culinary festival planned for the city, is set for Aug. 27-29 at the Sheraton Atrium. Festivities include wine tastings, chef competitions, cooking demos, appearances by Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and Holly Clegg. The Epicurean Society is tying the festival in with the third-annual Mama Marino Lifetime Achievement award, which this year honors retired distributor Frank Bologna, 81, responsible for flourishing the wine business Baton Rouge experiences today. 225 Dine will keep you updated with the events as they’re planned. Now that Southern Breeze and Taste of Baton Rouge are out the way, Fęte Rouge is sure to be the premiere foodie event, and may even put this city on the culinary map in no time.
