Scuttlebutt: Chelsea’s owner plans Mid City bar
Radio B.R.: The owner of Chelsea’s Café intends to open a bar on Government Street. Dave Remmetter is partnering with Brian Baiamonte (a photographer who works for Business Report and 225) to open the Radio Bar in the Ogden Park Shopping Center. Remmetter says the Radio Bar will be a neighborhood pub, where people nearby can get together for an after-work beer or glass of wine. The bar will be a little more than a local watering hole: An iPhone app has been developed so people all over the world can listen to the music being played at the Radio Bar. Remmetter and Baiamonte live in Mid City and say the neighborhood could use a place like their bar. “Nearby, there are a lot of 30- to 60-year-olds,” Remmetter says. They hope the bar can be a catalyst that spurs more efforts to redevelop Mid City. Plans are to open the Radio Bar in time for Spanish Town Mardi Gras. The rezoning request is set to go before the Planning Commission Sept. 13. Planning Commission staffers have recommended denying the Radio Bar request to rezone the property for a bar. Remmetter and Baiamonte hope they can convince commissioners and the Metro Council to approve the rezoning. —Timothy Boone
