Scuttlebutt: Chelsea’s ATC citations has bloggers asking questions; Arizona Web site reviews B.R. woman’s restaurant; CC’s sampling closes tomorrow
No citations: Charlie Buras of The Old River Road questioned ATC Commissioner Murphy Painter’s selective enforcement of the law, wondering why “nary a word has been said about Stroube’s,” when it shares the same license as Chelsea’s Café. “Could it be because the Chelsea’s crowd is younger and less influential than the Stroube’s crowd—where Baton Rouge’s movers and shakers hold their power lunches?” 225 Dine spoke with Stroube’s owner Rick Volland, who confirmed that indeed the state Office of Alcohol and Beverage Control paid a visit to the downtown eatery, which keeps late hours and features live music. “They walked around to make sure we’re a legitimate restaurant,” Volland says. “They looked to make sure we were serving a full menu late at night and not popcorn.” No citations yet. More brown than red: Baton Rouge native Jennifer Goff opened Flavors of Louisiana in Avondale, Ariz., and local website azcentral.com reviewed her restaurant. The menu introduces authentic Creole gumbo, jambalaya and catfish po-boys to Southwestern foodies. Find out what they thought (and be sure to read the dozens of humorous comments) here. Two more days: CC’s Community Coffee House locations are celebrating 90s years by letting its patrons vote for a new Mochasippi flavor. The three new flavors—strawberry shortcake, Dutch nut and banana cream pie—were created by CC’s baristas using only ingredients available at the coffee bar. Patrons can sample all three flavors for free up until tomorrow to vote.
