Runway to Realway: Winter Sorbet

As the bone-chilling cold front works its way through town, staying warm is essential for survival for us warm-weather junkies. Winter clothes tend to stay in the dark shades, but I always like to pull out fresh, crisp colors during these extra cold days. The spring-like colors make me feel as though I am on the beach eating ice cream and, most of all, warm.

This Missoni look from the Fall 2011 collection is still one of my favorite looks even after a few years It’s total abominable snowman style, mixed with The Purple People Eater, and with a flare of something Miss Piggy would wear. It reminds of the first time I walked into Limited Too: mid-1990s, fuzzy sweaters everywhere, rainbow shades of everything imaginable. It was a dream!

Cool shades are easy to combine together, like this mint, watermelon and light teal. They all complement each other without clashing. I would stay with just three colors to stray from looking too ridiculous. Add a neutral into the mix with a cute metallic circle skirt. The silver metallic breaks up the brighter colors to create balance. The skirt is light enough to transition easily into spring and summer, making it a good buy this season. A fun coat may seem a little frivolous, but it will look gorgeous in your closet come summer!
