Roundup: Raising Cane’s steps up with donation for BR Walls project … FDA says Gulf seafood safe to eat

Against the ‘Walls’: Todd Graves, founder of Raising Cane’s, pledged to fully fund the painting of a downtown wall as part of the BR Walls Project. The BR Walls project aims to cover bare walls with murals in downtown Baton Rouge. “We are thrilled to see such an exciting project come to life in our hometown,” says Graves in a news release. “Artists, community leaders and businesses are working together to beautify Baton Rouge, and the crew at Cane’s is proud to be a part of that progress.” BR Walls Project supporters are hosting an all-day telethon in the lobby of Hotel Indigo downtown from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to help keep momentum now that the project has met its goal. You can track the fundraising effort here; and read a recent 225 feature to learn more about the project here. When it’s sink or swim: Photos of fish with sores may raise concerns about long-term environmental effects of the massive BP oil spill, but federal health officials say the Gulf seafood that’s on the market is safe to eat. After all, diseased fish aren’t allowed to be sold, says Dr. Robert W. Dickey, who heads the Food and Drug Administration’s Gulf Coast Seafood Laboratory. The Associated Press has compiled a brief Q&A on seafood safety that you can check out here.
