Roundup: Louisiana Spirits receives DSP permit … Mama Della’s open on Jefferson

Getting into the ‘spirit’: Nascent rum distillery Louisiana Spirits was approved for operation Wednesday, Feb. 8, meaning that it has a permit from the federal government to manufacture distilled spirits. The company is currently constructing a distillery in Lacassine, along the South Frontage Road of Interstate 10. The ultimate goal, the company says, is to create Louisiana-branded sugar cane rum, which would add value to the harvest from the second-largest producer of sugar cane in the United States. Like your mama’s: Mama Della’s New York pizzeria has opened its doors at 8190 Jefferson Hwy. and has an abundance of hero sandwiches, pizzas and calzones.
