Best in the best: Food and Wine Magazine has named Louisiana native Chef David Guas one of the 10 best up-and-coming chefs in the Mid-Atlantic region, and now he’s competing to become the People’s Choice Best New Chef. Guas, who grew up in New Orleans, is the owner of Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery in Arlington, Va., and is the author of DamGoodSweet: Desserts to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth New Orleans Style. In its latest issue, the magazine profiles him and other emerging chefs all across the country. Readers can vote their choice of who should be named the best new chef overall. Swirll has had a Lafayette location for several months. Self-serve frozen yogurt, which offers customers a chance to mix cool treats with a variety of toppings, has been a hot trend in Baton Rouge lately.
