Roundup: Local agriculture teacher to receive national award, truck

Green for green: Toyota Motor Sales will award a brand-new Toyota Tundra truck to Ponchatoula High School teacher Alice DuBois. She earned the truck as part of being honored with the Outstanding Agricultural Education Teacher Award from the National Association of Agricultural Educators. DuBois has been an agriculture teacher for 21 years and is currently one of two agriculture teachers at Ponchatoula High School. She believes all students have the right and ability to learn to become positive, contributing members of society. Project-based learning is an integral part of each of her courses as it fosters higher-order thinking, communication and teamwork skills. In 2010 Ponchatoula Agriscience’ students raised a kangaroo as part of the exotic species unit. Alice will receive the truck on Feb. 24 at the Ponchatoula High School Agriscience event, Food For Thought.
