Roundup: Kleinpeter mascot Sweetie Pie pregnant … Edible Enterprises gets $50,000 grant

They heart cows: Sweetie Pie, the 2-year-old Kleinpeter Farms Dairy cow born with the likeness of the company’s heart-shaped logo on her forehead, is expecting her first calf. Company officials say she has been pregnant for eight weeks, and the calf is due in August 2012. Dairy owner Jeff Kleinpeter says the calf’s gender won’t be known until it’s born, adding that he’s not sure whether the heart-shaped spot is genetic. Expanding enterprise: Edible Enterprises, a food business incubator run by Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, recently received a $50,000 grant from the Louisiana Business Incubation Association and Louisiana Economic Development for food processing equipment and building upgrades. The award will increase production capabilities of the 24 small food companies that are tenants of Edible Enterprises, the only food incubator in Louisiana.
