Roundup: Kleinpeter enlarging ice cream facility … Last closed area of Gulf reopened for fishing

Bigger is better: Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has seen demand for its ice cream flavors rise sufficiently in the summer months to necessitate the expansion of its ice cream facility in Baton Rouge. The new storage warehouse is part of an overall physical expansion of the ice cream plant that began last year. Jeff Kleinpeter, the dairy’s president, says demand for ice cream is growing throughout the company’s service area, and was even steady during the winter months. Anniversary gift: One day before the anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, the federal government announced fishing can resume in the last of the Gulf of Mexico waters that remained closed because of the massive BP oil spill. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that with the opening of about 1,040 square miles of water nearest the sunken rig, all federal waters in the Gulf are open to fishing.
