Roundup: Antoine’s restaurant managing partner dies … Walk-On’s plans New Orleans location … Radio Bar gets go ahead from Metro Council
A family affair: Roy F. Guste Sr., who managed Antoine’s restaurant and practiced law with his brother, a former state attorney general, has died. He was 86. Officials with Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans say Guste died Tuesday. Guste’s mother was a descendant of Antoine Alciatore, who founded the famed French Quarter restaurant in 1840. Roy Guste and his brother, William J. Guste, who was attorney general from 1972 to 1992, were the fourth generation to run Antoine’s, which bills itself as the nation’s oldest family-run restaurant. It is now run by William’s son Bernard “Randy” Guste. Walk on, Walk-On’s: Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar is stepping into the Crescent City. The Baton Rouge–based sports bar and grill is set to open its first New Orleans location on Poydras Street, a few blocks from the Superdome and the New Orleans Arena, in the old Smith & Wollensky building. Plans are to open the restaurant in fall 2011, according to the Walk-On’s website. This will be the second Walk-On’s outside of Baton Rouge; a Lafayette location is set to open in early 2011.Radio go: The Metro Council Wednesday evening went along with the vote of the Planning Commission that allowed for the Radio Bar, which will be located in the Ogden Park Shopping Center. Residents of nearby neighborhoods had lobbied the Planning Commission for the bar, saying they liked the idea of a place where they could go and socialize over drinks. Radio Bar will be owned by Dave Remmetter, who owns Chelsea’s Café, and Brian Baiamonte, a photographer who works for Business Report and 225. Plans are to open the Radio Bar by February or March, says Baiamonte.
