Round-up: Acapulco closes; Crawdaddy’s, The Den open
It was a fiesta while it lasted: Acapulco Mexican Grill closed a couple of weeks ago, just before reaching their six-week anniversary. The lights were out and doors locked on the North Boulevard eatery, formerly the Grape Leaf.More dining action in Mid City: The business team of Sean Cangelosi and Jason Murray have put the finishing touches on the old gas station on Government Street that houses the Smoothie King and the new Roly Poly. This week they’ve opened Crawdaddy’s Select Crawfish, which sells live and boiled crawfish, graded straight from the farm. Crawdaddy’s will be open on Good Friday, serving the live mudbugs for $2.29 a pound or boiled at $3.59 a pound. Ice chest special is $2.99 a pound for more than 30 pounds. Soul food’s back: The Den opened its doors recently to serve comfort food such as red beans and rice, chicken fried steak, pork chops, fried catfish and more. Owner Rich Little decided the Highland Road spot between downtown and LSU—just five blocks south of Channel 2 headquarters—was a great spot to open a soul food eatery.
