We’re used to film crews seeking out Baton Rouge for the tax credits or as a stand-in for other cities. But our colorful residents are now becoming part of the focus, too.

When Megan Miller, of nearby Ethel, auditioned for American Idol’s current and 13th season, she felt better about her chances. After getting through initial auditions in season 12, a motorcycle accident put her on crutches in front of the celebrity judges. Though she went on to Hollywood Week, nerves got the best of her, and she was cut.

“I started working [afterward] to build myself as the whole package now,” she says. “I learned how to play keyboard and guitar. I started playing shows across Louisiana and took it more seriously.”

Miller impressed judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. and got another golden ticket to Hollywood Week this February.

“I’m thankful for my experience last year because I wouldn’t be as good as I am now,” she says.

Unfortunately, Hollywood Week was the end of the road again. When the top 30 were revealed Feb. 13, Miller’s name wasn’t on the list.
