Rock them while you still can

Time is running out on this season’s free outdoor concerts, but there’s plenty of fabulous music still to be had, and free.

Sunday in the Park winds down spring this month with three unique, dynamic performers. Jazz drummer Herman Jackson will set down some sweet grooves and toe-tapping harmonies with his big band on May 1. Then, bayou-rocking momma Marcia Ball helps make Mother’s Day a party on May 8. And closing out the season with some rollicking accordion will be Lil’ Malcolm and the House Rockers (pictured).

The shows are noon to 3 p.m. in Lafayette Park next to the Shaw Center for the Arts. You can pack a picnic and an ice chest, or order great food and drinks from event vendors and nearby restaurants.
