Robots, monsters, Pacific Rim has it all – What’s that? An original film during the summer?

What’s that? An original film during the summer? Director Guillermo del Toro’s latest big-budget sci-fi action film Pacific Rim features all the ingredients of a blockbuster—larger-than-life robots fighting Godzilla-like monsters that are destroying the world, and reliable one-liners from Ron Perlman and Charlie Day. OK, so this one isn’t exactly breaking the mold when it comes to new ideas. However, del Toro’s track record is consistent and fan boys will no doubt gobble this film up. Throw in Idris Elba (Stringer Bell from The Wire) as a commander who threatens that his army is canceling the apocalypse, and you have a massive popcorn flick that knows spectacle and entertainment are the credentials needed for a fun summer film.
