Robert Graham knows collecting. His father in 1953 started Bayou News, a magazine distribution business, and soon started saving landmark issues of Time, Life and, as Graham calls it, “Sports Ill.” Now many of these vintage magazines grace the walls of the Station Sports Bar & Grill alongside co-owner Robert Graham’s formidable collection of signed sports and pop-culture memorabilia.
Of course, each is screwed into the wall and protected by Plexiglas so a clumsy patron can’t break anything more expensive than a beer bottle. His collection spans everything from the first issue of Life after JFK’s assassination to 1960s LSU football game day programs to a signed copy of a Mr. T comic book.
“People come in all the time and ask, ‘How much for that?’ like they are in a flea market,” Graham says. “But this stuff took my brother and I years to collect. It’s irreplaceable.”
