Riding for hope

Fifty states in 50 days, 50 miles a day, all on his bicycle.

For David Landsberg, who once ran a triathlon minus both kidneys and his spleen, it’s an opportunity to help people.

A kidney transplant in 1999 helped him overcome a genetic medical condition. Since then, he’s been encouraging people to sign up to become organ donors.

Baton Rouge is the second stop on his tour, called the “Donors Rock Ride.”

On the morning of July 5, starting from The Bicycle Shop on Highland Road, Landsberg will complete five 10-mile loops around City Park and the LSU Lakes. Local cyclists are encouraged to join him, others to cheer. And all are encouraged to join Louisiana’s ranks of organ donors.

“Eighteen people die on the waiting list every day,” Landsberg says. “That seems like a problem we can solve.”
