Review: Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels, written by Toni McGee Causey

Local author Toni McGee Causey has hit another home run with the second installment in her hugely popular Bobbie Faye series with the release of Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels. This follow-up to Causey’s debut novel Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day follows the sassy Southern heroine who’s prone to trouble through another round of adventures across the Bayou State.

We pick up with Bobbie Faye just one month after running from the law and outwitting bears, alligators, and a vindictive ex-boyfriend all just to take her place as rightful queen of the Contraband Festival in Lake Charles. Up to this point, she’s been able to avoid trouble, a huge feat for anyone and a personal record for Bobbie Faye. Thanks to Causey’s careful character development, it is impossible for readers to expect this to last, and it doesn’t take long for the universe to come calling on Bobbie Faye.

This time her cousin Francesca needs her help locating some diamonds lost in a vicious family feud. It’ll take Bobbie Faye’s quick wit and knack for evading the law to find them. She is one of Acadiana’s most famous bullet-dodgers, after all.

With Causey’s wicked-fast pacing, readers won’t have time to catch their breath before being thrust into the middle of the action. Before you know it, one man is dead, Bobbie Faye is accused of murder, and she’s on the run with a band of psychos, thieves, a sexy FBI agent—and, of course, Cam, her detective ex-boyfriend—hot on her trail. Laughs and thrills ensue.

This is the perfect summer read for lazy days sunning poolside. Just be sure to slather on enough sunblock. Once you start, you won’t want to put this one down. tonimcgeecausey.com
