‘Retreat’ from paradise

Anyone still clinging to the strained hopes of a sequel to 1996 hit comedy Swingers might want to look into Couples Retreat this Friday. The new film stars Swingers pals Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau in roles that could easily be post-marriage, post-40 updates of their younger Los Angelinos on the prowl. Written by Favreau and Vaughn–their first original screenplay since Made–follows four couples on a group vacation. One of the pair are there for much-needed counseling, and unfortunately for the others, participation in the resort’s occasionally unorthodox therapy sessions is mandatory. Sometimes even a vacation’s no vacation. Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman and Kristin Bell co-star, and here’s a fun fact, Couples Retreat was directed by Peter Billingsly, A Christmas Story’s Ralphie, all grown up, eyeballs intact.
