Restaurant Review: Parrain’s
Despite good crowds and an enviable location at the southern foot of the culturally rejuvenated Perkins Road Overpass district, Parrain’s Seafood Restaurant has developed a reputation as the more relaxed kid sister to longtime LSU landmark The Chimes. Both are co-owned by local restaurateur Tim Hood. Beginning its 10th year this month, Parrain’s has always touted its fresh catch as coming from one place and one place only: the Gulf of Mexico. This commitment makes Parrain’s not just a restaurant but a cause this fall, as Louisiana’s fishermen and coastal residents still suffer through the havoc the BP oil spill has made of their lives and the industry that is their lifeblood. From boiled shrimp, chargrilled oysters and crawfish beignets to burgers and fried seafood platters, Parrain’s serves up classic dishes caught by Louisianans—and cooked for them, too.
