Restaurant Review: La Lou

Breakfast can be delicious any time of day, but it’s also nice to have more options. Another Broken Egg Café may have edged out Louie’s Café and Frank’s Restaurant for Best Breakfast in our reader-voted Best of 225 Awards last year, but owner Mark Dixon still took the menu of Baton Rouge’s a.m. foodie favorite back to the drawing board last summer. He and his chefs polished the restaurant’s popular breakfast menu and expanded it to include even more south Louisiana–inspired entrées for lunch and dinner. When the culinary expansion was complete, the Bocage-area restaurant re-opened last August as La Lou. While the restaurant’s storied sweet potato pancakes and huge omelets remain, they are joined now by paneed redfish, seafood jambalaya, crabmeat au gratin, baby back ribs, and other Creole and Deep South dishes.
