“Red Stick Revelry” song and video released – New Year’s Eve activities also announced

Baton Rouge will be the place to be this New Year’s Eve.

The city has teamed up with the funk band Phat Hat and songwriter Wendell Woods to release a song proving just that.

“Red Stick Revelry” is the official song for the inaugural New Year’s Eve celebration downtown. The song is now available on iTunes, and a portion of its sales will go toward funding fun next year’s event.

Mayor-President Kip Holden celebrated the release of the song as well as other commemorative items and announced the city’s plans for New Year’s Eve today.

The Capital City’s New Year’s Eve activities kick off at 11 a.m. and include hands-on activities for kids on the Town Square lawn provided by The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, a performance of the “Legend of the Red Stick” by Robby Wilson, free lessons from Steve Hood with Geaux Body Fitness Studio on the “Red Stick Revelry” line dance, and Mayor Holden leading participants in singing the tune as the “Red Stick” is raised into place 60 feet in the air for the midnight drop.

WAFB-TV will broadcast the Red Stick drop at Town Square live with a special half-hour program, starting at 11:40 p.m.

The Belle of Baton Rouge (Map it!) will also host the Official Red Stick Revelry Cocktail Contest Friday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. where a number of local bartenders will compete for a panel of celebrity judges.
