‘Rampart’s’ red glare
Bold up-and-coming film director Oren Moverman, who wrote Jesus’ Son and I’m Not There before directing 2009’s severely underrated post-war drama The Messenger, returns this Friday with the two talented leads from the later film on board for police drama Rampart. Set in 1999, Woody Harrelson stars as Los Angeles’ most crooked cop who puts taking care of himself and his family far above his dedication to the law. Conniving, fearless and physically abusive, he confronts anyone who stands in his way, including his superiors on the force. Harrelson’s The Messenger co-star Ben Foster is on hand as is Anne Heche, Ice Cube, Stella Schnabel and Robin Wright. Rated R.
