Prospecting art

Some works of art fit neatly into galleries. Others need an entire city. As the massive biennial Prospect.1 New Orleans comes to a close, the Big Easy has become a blank canvas for more than 80 artists showing off their work—or creating site-specific pieces—in historic and abandoned buildings, empty lots and the requisite galleries. Installations in the Lower Ninth Ward, seeming to sprout up among the overgrown weeds and rubble, are the most memorable—perhaps more for the setting than the art. The free exhibition requires some planning and a map, but think of it as a daytrip or a multi-day art scavenger hunt. Plot your route before Prospect.1 closes Jan. 18. prospectneworleans.org
