Prometheus (in theaters June 8)

Prometheus was smart, but the trickster Greek Titan sure got the short end of the stick. Humanity gets fire while he is tied to a rock with an eagle noshing on his liver every day. Apparently Zeus forgives but never forgets. Could the mythological title of Prometheus be a big hint to the film’s super secretive plot?

Returning to the genre he helped define for a generation with 1979’s landmark space thriller Alien and 1982’s Harrison Ford-led neo-noir mystery Blade Runner, acclaimed director Ridley Scott has created a new world of terror and enlightenment in the far reaches of the cosmos. Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace star as exploratory scientists who uncover the beginnings of the greatest threat Earth has ever known while trapped on a distant planet.

Whether Prometheus dovetails neatly into the narrative of Scott’s landmark 1979 thriller Alien as rumored or not, it would seem the classic tagline for that film still applies: “In space, no one can hear you scream.”
