Preview: Slow Food Baton Rouge’s inaugural Farm to Table Showcase

In a little under a month, Slow Food Baton Rouge will host its inaugural Farm to Table Showcase. The event is set for Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Burden Center’s Orangerie and kicks off at 4 p.m. with a small competition between local chefs, such as Scott Love from Blend, Ryan Andre from Le Creole and Brad Andries of Stroubes. Slow Food Baton Rouge board member and Nino’s and Oscar’s Ice Cream & Pizza Joint chef/owner Elton Hyndman is organizing the showcase.

“We want this to be annual,” Hyndman says. “We want to focus on the chefs who are doing things right, sourcing things locally. We hope it builds upon itself and becomes its own thing.”

Hyndman says he’s still getting all the details worked out for the October cook-off, but it’s work he doesn’t mind doing.

“Anything I can do to help fix that or make people aware what our food is and where it’s coming from, that’s a benefit,” he says. “I think the movement and our talent is growing.”

Tickets to the event will be $125 per person or $200 per couple. Proceeds from the event will benefit Slow Food Baton Rouge programming. For more information, click here.—Matthew Sigur
