Popular popcorn chain comes to B.R.
What comes to mind when you hear the word “popcorn”? Is it the greasy and overpriced kernels they sell at the movies that smear your fingers and clothes with artificial oils? If so, the light, flavorful fluffs at the soon-to-open Doc Popcorn at the Mall of Louisiana will come as a pleasant shock. Local businessman George Huye is bringing the successful Denver chain to Baton Rouge, and he wants customers to know that this isn’t movie popcorn. “The corn we use is all-natural,” he says, “and our flavors contain no artificial ingredients or flavors. It’s a better-for-you snack.” You can choose from nine varieties—four sweet, five savory—ranging from jalapeńo to sinfully cinnamon, all kettle-popped. Huye says it will only take one sniff to make converts out of mall shoppers. “When the kettle gets going, it smells like a bakery—it’s just fantastic,” he says. The “PopShop” will start serving at the mall’s food court the week of Aug. 16.
