Play Chess this Friday

Just like MC Hammer or that long-haired kid on your street, Leonard Chess began selling records out of the trunk of his car in the 1950s. That was the beginning of Chicago-based Chess Records, the legendary label that would become the home of Muddy Waters, Etta James, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and other greats of blues and early rock ‘n’ roll. Cadillac Records stars Oscar-winner Adrien Brody as Chess, Jeffrey Wright as Waters, Mos Def as Berry and Beyonce Knowles as James. The film traces the launch of Chess Records and the successes, trials and tribulations of its roster of stars. Rated R. (Photo courtesy Sony BMG Film)
