Kids these days know their way around an iPhone camera. They know how to take selfies and Snapchat images that are deleted and forgotten in seconds. For this issue’s photo-centric focus, we asked students at two local schools to get behind a real camera and document one day in their lives. Included here are the images and words the students provided.
Rebecca Lawler School: St. Joseph’s Academy Year: Senior
Getting to school: “The only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning is my cup of coffee. After the drive to school, I face the biggest obstacle of the day: the stairs.”
Morning classes: After Lawler’s first hour class (World History), it’s on to second hour: English. “On this particular day, we tested games we made inspired by The Canterbury Tales.” Then, it’s on to French class.
Between classes: Lawler captured this shot of her fellow students at St. Joseph walking across campus to their next classes.
Lunchtime: “After French class, I attend the local Hunger Games, otherwise known as the lunch line.”
“Most days, I spend lunch visiting with my friends and eating.”
Afternoon classes: The second half of the day starts with Environmental Science. Then it’s off to Catholic High for choir class.
After school: When she isn’t answering phones at Kleinpeter Photography or helping out with the student-published newspaper, Student Prints, Lawler heads home for homework and much-needed sleep. “The night is usually occupied with homework and assignments I’ve written in my trusty planner. Then I crawl into my never-made bed and fall asleep.”
Jyron Walker School: The Dunham School Year: Senior
Around campus: Walker took this photo of his fellow students walking across campus.
In Physics class: Walker is an honor student with his eye on several prestigious colleges. “I want to major in math and finance in college. I like [calculus most] because it will prepare me for my future studies.”
Between classes: Walker snapped a few photos of some of his friends while walking between classes.
In the lunch line: “On game day, I enjoy eating lunch with the juniors, my teammates.”
Pep rally: As quarterback and defensive back for Dunham’s Tigers, Walker is a big presence at the school’s football pep rally.
