Perfect Tin cans to hit store shelves Tuesday

Aluminum cans of Tin Roof Brewing’s signature beer, Perfect Tin Amber Ale, will reach store shelves beginning Tuesday. The 12-ounce cans will be sold in a number of stores in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and the Northshore, including Whole Foods, Matherne’s and Calandro’s, says William McGehee, co-founder of Tin Roof. Tin Roof is the first Louisiana-based brewery to launch a full-scale canning line, although aluminum cans of Abita Beer will be released in 2012. Aluminum cans have come back into favor with microbreweries like Baton Rouge-based Tin Roof. Recent changes in canning technology have made it possible to preserve and protect the flavor of canned beer. “Cans are lighter than bottles, chill faster, require less fuel to transport, are more readily recyclable and protect beer from the degrading effects of exposure to light,” says Charles Caldwell, Tin Roof co-founder. “They are also airtight and oxygen-free, ensuring your beer is as tasty and fresh as the way it was intended.” The cans may also go to events where glass bottles aren’t allowed, such as parades, festivals and tailgate parties.
