Pain Gain (in theaters Friday)

Director Michael Bay has a knack for making big, dumb movies. For the last six years, Bay has been stuck in Transformers exile, creating a trilogy that ruled the box office while also getting some of his career’s worst reviews. The string of films almost made people forget that Bay has made some entertaining fare, and he just might get back on the wagon this Friday with Pain & Gain. This new film stars the always-reliable Mark Wahlberg and wrestler-turned-action-star Dwayne Johnson as a pair of bodybuilders out to get the loot of a smarmy Miami businessman, played by Tony Shalhoub. With a great cast and relatively low budget (Bay shot this for $25 million, compared to his $150 million-plus Transformers budget), this could be the hit to get Bay back on track.
