Oz the Great and Powerful (in theaters Friday)
Disney is looking somewhere over the rainbow for its next live-action, big budget production—the Sam Raimi-directed Oz the Great and Powerful.
The film is a prequel to the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz and stars James Franco as a small-time magician who arrives in an enchanted land to face off against the Wicked Witch of the West.
This is Raimi’s first film since his 2009 underrated horror-comedy Drag Me to Hell. Oz the Great and Powerful has an incredible supporting cast, filled out by Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Zach Braff, as well as $200 million budget. However, early reviews are timid about the return to Oz. Rated PG.
