Out in the fresh air

With beautiful and relatively cooler weather predicted for this weekend, it’s a perfect time to get out and enjoy Baton Rouge and the great outdoors. Our city offers plenty of ways to get out and get active with friends and family; here are just a few of our suggestions: Visit the Baton Rouge Zoo. With a plethora of animal species, beautiful outdoor byways and admission of only $8.75 per adult and $5.75 per child, it’s a relatively inexpensive and educational way to while away an afternoon. Visit brzoo.org for more information. Get a glimpse of rural life. The LSU Rural Life Museum provides many intriguing outdoor exhibits illustrating the history of Louisiana agriculture—a more interesting topic than you might think! The grounds also include the Burden Center’s Rose Garden, with fragrant, blooming buds that can easily provide an hour or more of your time on their own. Click here for more info. Use outdoor spaces. Visit one of BREC’s many gorgeous parks—from City Park in Mid City to Greenwood Community Park in Baker. Rent a boat, bring along a Frisbee or a croquet set and some sandwiches and make a day of it. Visit brec.org for a full list of parks and their facilities.
