Ooooh, hot summer means jazzin’ hot sax

The popular concert series, Hot Summer Nights and Cool Jazz, returns this summer to the new and improved Claude L. Shaver Theatre inside the LSU Music and Dramatic Arts building on campus. Thursday’s show features saxophonist Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, and Friday night he encores with vocalist Germaine Bazzle. The tradition of the LSU Jazz Faculty-hosted series continues with the usual suspects: LSU faculty pianist Willis Delony, bassist Bill Grimes, trumpeter Brian Shaw and Baton Rouge drummer Troy Davis. On July 10, catch “The Johnny Mercer Songbook,” with St. Louis-based vocalist and trumpeter Tom Birkner. Tickets are $15 and available by calling 578-3261. Shows start at 8 p.m.
