‘One Day’ at a time

Anne Hathaway ages 20 years this Friday in the new romantic drama One Day. Lone Scherfig, who made a splash last year with An Education, directs this adaptation of the David Nicholls novel that follows the ups and downs of a relationship by dropping in on the couple on the same day—July 15 to be exact—every year for two decades. When Hathaway and 21’s Jim Sturgiss first meet, they do not hit it off romantically. She is high maintenance. He is a womanizer. Ironically, they do become friends and as this film follows their divergent career paths and varied attempts to connect and stay connected, the pair find themselves closer than either might have expected or bargained for. Patricia Clarkson co-stars. Rated PG-13. (Image by Giles Keyte)
