On the Road: Strawn’s Eat Shop
Recently named as one of the South’s best diners by Southern Living magazine, Strawn’s Eat Shop is a Shreveport staple. Founded in 1944 by the eponymous Mr. Strawn, the restaurant is now owned by Buddy Gauthier and his two daughters, who operate the newer locations—cutely dubbed Strawn’s Eat Shop Too and Strawn’s Eat Shop Also. Famed for delectable southern food like chicken fried steak and tasty sandwiches, the standout offerings have to be their sweet icebox pies, made fresh from long-handed-down family recipes. Next time you’re in Shreveport, step into the brightly-painted original location, or one of the offshoots, and treat yourself to a cream-topped strawberry icebox pie—you won’t regret it.
