On the Road: Places to check out during NOLA Fashion Week

Fashion Week in New Orleans wraps up this Saturday at several locations in the Central Business District. We asked a few people to pitch us their choice New Orleans restaurants and bars to visit between shows.

Lauren Lagarde, a publicist for NOLA Fashion Week and an LSU grad, suggests Bellocq, the hip bar in the Hotel Modern on Lee Circle. It’s known for bringing back the cobbler, a 19th-century cocktail mixing a base spirit (usually a fortified wine) with sugar and fresh fruit. “Also, we love Barcadia for a quick bite in between shows and Merchant for coffee and sandwiches,” Lagarde says. Barcadia, located on Tchoupitoulas Street, features food from Curbside’s Nick Hufft, and Merchant is on the corner of Common and Carondelet streets.

225 Contributing Editor Amy Alexander also suggested Coop’s Place, on Decatur Street in the French Quarter, for a delicious rabbit and sausage jambalaya or crawfish and tasso pasta. “Coop hangs out at the restaurant and enjoys chatting with patrons,” Alexander says. “He also mixes an outstanding Sazerac.”
