On the Road: Dallas’s food truck scene
As a Baton Rougean, you’ve doubtless already toured our local food truck lineup—from gelato to tacos, we’ve got it goin’ on. But if you’re planning on truckin’ it out of town to see LSU’s season opener against Oregon, don’t miss your chance to sample another city’s mobile food scene. The Dallas-Fort Worth area’s food truck fleet is just getting off the ground, and, much like here, a new member seems to be hitting the streets every week. Il Cane Rosso is one without an equivalent in the Red Stick (yet)—a rolling pizza oven, serving Neopolitan pizza-on-the-go. Crispy thin-style crust made in-house with all-natural ingredients, fresh-made tomato sauce, hand-pulled mozzarella, all baked in an imported Italian oven, make this some of the most authentic pie you can grab in Texas. Salsa Limon serves up modern Mexican tacos and burritos, with ingredients ranging from the usual, like carne asada and chorizo, to lengua, or tongue. Worth a taste? You decide. There’s also the grand dame of the food truck fleet, the two Yum Yum Food Trucks, which serve up burgers, tacos and burritos at a quick-n-tasty pace. If you’re planning on attending the LSU Dallas Block Party on Friday night, you might catch some of these trucks on the ground—but check their Facebook and Twitter feeds to see where you might be able to snag some of their food throughout the weekend.—Rachael Upton
