On the Road: Beyu Caffe, Durham N.C.
Durham, N.C., may seem out of the way, even for one of our “On the Road” features, but if you’re in the area, it’s well worth a visit. Why? Because Chef Juan DiGiulio—formerly of DiGiulio Brothers Italian Restaurant right here in Baton Rouge—heads up the kitchen there. His innovative but classic approach, honed in the DiGiulio kitchen, is already garnering him abundant praise from the locals for food that’s prepared to perfection. Beyu’s menu makes good use of local farm resources for fresh vegetables, eggs and milk. The menu is simple, mixing several traditions—Mexican, Cajun, Italian—for dishes like oyster po-boys, quesadillas and calamari. It’s a lovely taste of home with a few different twists, served by an expatriate Baton Rougean in a cozy setting. What more could you ask for? beyucaffe.com
