Of ‘Gods and Men’

Should I stay or should I go? It’s the frightful question facing an enclave of Trappist monks under threat of violence in a largely Muslim fundamentalist country in the film Gods and Men, a new drama available now on DVD. Based on a true story of Christians under persecution in war-torn Algeria in the mid-1990s, the foreign language film is directed by French auteur Xavier Beauvois and follows their struggle to survive and the search for faith in the face of certain death and answers to the questions of life and their purpose in it. Michael Lonsdale and Lambert Wilson star. Rated PG-13.
