Odds are ’50/50′

When seemingly healthy 27-year-old Adam learns that he has a rare form of spinal cancer, he deals with the news in unexpected and often comedic ways in 50/50, a bold look at terminal illness and the importance of the people in our lives that is new on DVD this week. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in this true-story based on the experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser, who wrote the film as a form of therapy during his own battle with cancer. Reiser’s real-life friend Seth Rogen plays a toned-down version of himself who attempts to perk up his sick friend enough to use cancer as a way to score with women. Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Huston co-star. Rated R.
