New nosh at Northgate

Just beyond the north gates of LSU you’ll find some new spots at which to stop and munch, at the brand-new College Row Northgate center—with more to follow. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt just opened the doors to their second location this week, twin to the one in the Mall of Louisiana; and PJ’s Coffee plans to bring sweet New Orleans-style brew to the area soon. Also open now is The Pita Pit, one of an international chain, which in addition to serving signature wrap sandwiches has added beer to their offerings as a nod to the college crowd likely to be their main customers; the Pit will be open until 3 a.m. weeknights and 4 a.m. weekends, in addition to serving an all-day breakfast. National barbecue chain Buffalo Wild Wings is also laying plans for an LSU locale, next door to a new Chinese restaurant, Shanghai Tokyo. The hope is that this new development will bring back some much-needed retail to the area. Although most of the storefronts are empty, Menchie’s and Pita Pit are already seeing heavy traffic.
