New gourmet popcorn shop opening soon

Baton Rouge will get its second gourmet popcorn shop within the next week. April Hebert got the idea for Popology, a popcorn, candy and gift shop, last fall and started eyeing locations in January. She recently moved her new business into the Bluebonnet Square shopping center in the former location of Sprinkle Berry Frozen Yogurt (Map it!).

“We realized it was something that Baton Rouge really didn’t have,” she says. “While we were building our concept, [Popcorn Bistro] opened in the mall. We wanted to do something a bit different and more creative.”

Among the kernel flavors are dill pickle, grape, cheesecake, caramel, pizza, baked potato and white chocolate pretzel. The store also offers special sports flavors for Saints, Tigers and Jaguars fans as well as plenty of gift ideas.

“Popcorn is one of those things … Who doesn’t love popcorn?” she says. “We can do all sorts of things with it and get creative with it.” —Matthew Sigur
