My Space – Dr. Leone Elliott Jr.’s Healthcare Gallery

Sierra Leone native Dr. Leone Elliott has always balanced his analytical and creative sides well, but it wasn’t until he blended his skill in medicine and his passion for art that The Healthcare Gallery was born earlier this year.
The stark white gallery walls—on which hang vibrant, envelope-pushing artwork—slide open to reveal a hidden but full-scale medical facility.

“Everything else changes, but medicine has stayed so traditional, so exclusive and clinical,” says the innovative primary care physician who works off of Jefferson Highway near Essen Lane. “But what if you went to an art gallery to see your doctor? This is the direction health care is headed with multi-functional spaces.”

Elliott hosts art openings and exhibits at the gallery, and here he shares a few of the finer points about his unique space. thehealthcaregallery.com

1. Large format artwork feels best in this space. We want the gallery to be relaxed and welcoming and uncluttered.

2. This sliding wall was created specifically to conceal the medical component of the space to make it more art-centric and less clinical.

3. The walls and the ceiling are the same white color so as not to detract from the artwork

4. The TV was put on the sliding door so it would not take up valuable wall space, and it is used to mirror the iPad during the documentation process so the patient can view their record as it is being developed in real time.

5. The desk space is so that the medical provider is always present during a patient’s visit.
