“I am a hardcore gumbo junkie. I have had this obsession for years, but don’t know why. My perfect meal consists of chicken, roasted duck and andouille sausage gumbo–with no rice. The thicker and darker the roux, the better. Served with hot french bread and a good glass of merlot, followed by warm bread pudding with whiskey sauce, and I’m all set. Although my search for the perfect gumbo is ongoing, some of my favorite places for gumbo that I have found are Juban’s, the Acme Oyster House, Uncle O’s and Chimes. The Gumbo Ya-Ya from Mr. B’s Bistro in New Orleans is also very good. And one of my favorites places to get my chicken and sausage gumbo fix: Sammy’s on Highland.”
