My Fitness Style: Al C. Moreau, III
Occupation: Physical Therapist
Outfit: Lacrosse waders and Drake Waterfowl pullover and hat. Gun: Bennelli Super Black Eagle shotgun.
Al C. Moreau III is a physical therapist and partner at Moreau Physical Therapy, the clinic his father began in Zachary in 1977. Now with six outpatient private practice locations and two pediatric specialty outpatient clinics, and the clinics’ recently added wellness services, pediatric therapy and preventive care, Moreau is busier than ever balancing family life, work life, healthy lifestyle and his love of duck hunting.
I always wanted to be in the physical therapy business. I saw how my father helped people, and this was such a positive force that I always wanted to be able to do the same.

I typically do some cardio work for 20-30 minutes and then do 30 minutes of resistance exercises using mostly body weight and light dumbbells. I mix it up so I don’t do the same routine twice. My workouts are typically fairly short, but intense. It isn’t necessary to work out for a long time—intensity is really the key to getting results.
It is challenging to keep consistent with a routine, but it’s something that I have to make a priority. Although it takes time, I’m more productive and focused when I do exercise.
“Think different.” I challenge myself each day to think how I can improve by not being content with doing things a certain way just because that’s how others do it.
Drink plenty of water and some good red wine.
The most common injuries I see are strains of the lower back. Even people who exercise regularly sometimes develop bad habits and use poor form, causing injuries that interrupt their performance and progress. Also, just because you were taught a workout routine in high school doesn’t mean it is the correct routine for you now!
I got into using the shake weight for a while, but …
I eat about five times per day—breakfast, lunch and dinner with almonds and Greek yogurt for snacks. I usually have three or four boiled eggs with wheat toast and peanut butter for breakfast, and eat meals high in protein and low in fat for my other meals.
Since we eat and cook very healthy at home, I definitely like to splurge when I go out to eat. If I want to keep it healthy, I will usually go with sushi, but my favorite is a big rib eye and cottage fries, extra crispy, from Ruth’s Chris.
Try to do something active and break a sweat every day.
You would have to ask my wife how she does that. I usually just try to stand next to her and hope some of that wears off on me.
I’m not even sure if this is a style, but I never have understood Capri pants for guys.
Either duck hunting or playing in the yard with my family.
